When Dallas is calling, you answer. Nick & Sam’s restaurant and the Dallas Mavericks approached Travis to make a retirement gift for the great Dirk Nowitzki.
“Growing up a sports fan, Dirk is one of the people you respect most,” said Travis. “I’m incredibly humbled with the opportunity to have gifted something to someone so important and at such a vital part of his life.” To commemorate Nowitzki’s career in this beloved city, Travis designed a vintage leather jacket as a displayable work of art.
The back of a ‘70s vintage leather jacket was painted and embellished to highlight Dirk’s patented fade away silhouette. “41. 21. 1” signified Nowitzki’s jersey number 41 and 21 years of basketball with one city. Perhaps the most eye-catching portion of the jacket is the Dallas skyline. Finely created with crushed blue salvaged glass, the shimmer of its artistry really made Nowitzki’s metallic silver silhouette leap from its background.
Travis presented the memorial piece in a shadow box to Nowitzki and his wife Jessica at his Nick & Sam’s retirement dinner.
“The opportunity to actually take part of the presentation and speak upon the city’s behalf is a moment I will truly never forget,” said Travis. He is beyond grateful to Nick & Sam’s, the City of Dallas, and the Dallas Mavericks for allowing him this momentous experience.
Thank you, Dirk. – Travis
